The Art of the Valentine’s Day Staycation

Staycations- a vacation where you either spend time at home or at some other location in your town or city- are a way to create a great vacation experience while maintaining a budget (whether that budget is for finances or time.) It’s also a great way to see your town/city in a new light. As Valentine’s Day approaches, you may be coming up with romantic plans- why not try a staycation?

How to Plan the Perfect Valentine’s Day Staycation

Staycation at Home

Transform your home into a romantic retreat by setting the mood with candles, fairy lights, and soft music. Plan a gourmet dinner together—either by cooking a special meal or ordering from your favorite local restaurant. Set the table with your favorite foods, open a bottle of wine or your favorite drinks, and enjoy a slow, intimate meal.

For entertainment, consider a movie marathon of your favorite romantic films, a game night, or even a DIY spa experience with face masks and massages. If you want to make it extra special, create a cozy fort with blankets and pillows, and spend the evening reminiscing about your favorite memories together.

Staycation at a Hotel or Bed & Breakfast

If you’d prefer a change of scenery, book a stay at a local boutique hotel or a charming bed and breakfast. My husband and I did this recently at the Ritz Carlton and had an amazing time exploring our city and visiting local sights. Many hotels offer Valentine’s Day packages that include spa treatments, romantic dinners, and late checkouts. Take advantage of amenities like a jacuzzi, breakfast in bed, or a couple’s massage.

If you want to explore, you can spend a day at nearby attractions—visit a museum, go on a scenic walk, or find a rooftop bar with a view.

A staycation is all about slowing down, focusing on each other, and making new memories—without the stress of travel. Whether you stay home or book a night away, you can create a Valentine’s Day experience that feels special.
