Las Vegas is famous for nightlife, casinos, and adult entertainment, but it’s also a fun vacation for families with kids. I’ve been to Vegas several times in my adult life, but I also had a wonderful vacation in Vegas when I was only 13. I took a tour of the Hoover Dam, did a boat ride on Lake Mead, and went horseback riding.
Are you planning to travel to Vegas with kids? Of course, there’s no gambling or nightclubs when traveling with kids, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be bored; there’s plenty to do for families.
What does Vegas offer? There are interactive museums, outdoor adventures, and other attractions beyond slot machines and roulette.
One of the best places to start is AREA15, an immersive entertainment complex just off the Strip. Kids (and adults) love the colorful, futuristic environment, and attractions like the Museum of Illusions, arcade-style games, virtual reality experiences, and interactive art installations. While some experiences are geared toward teens and adults, there are several options for all ages that make AREA15 a must-visit for families.
Another popular stop for kids is the Adventuredome at Circus Circus, an indoor amusement park featuring roller coasters, bumper cars, mini golf, and carnival games. Because it’s indoors, it’s perfect for escaping the heat, if you’re visiting in summer. Circus Circus also offers free circus acts throughout the day, which younger kids often love.
For hands-on learning for little kids, the Discovery Children’s Museum is a great option. This multi-level museum focuses on science, art, and play, with exhibits on topics like water conservation. It’s great for elementary-age kids and a way to balance out other attractions with something educational.
If you and your family want to spend time outside, you should consider visiting Red Rock Canyon, located about 30 minutes from the Strip. Red Rock Canyon offers drives, hiking trails suitable for kids, and the opportunity to see wildlife. It’s a great way to introduce kids to the desert.
Kids will enjoy the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay, where kids can see sharks, rays, sea turtles, and exotic fish up close. The underwater tunnel is especially cool and creates a memorable experience. The Flamingo Wildlife Habitat is a free attraction where kids can see flamingos, turtles, and koi fish.
Even classic sights can be kid-friendly. The Bellagio Fountains are great for children and adults alike, and the shows run throughout the day. Families can also stroll through themed hotels like The Venetian, Paris Las Vegas, and New York-New York. Many hotels also have pools with lazy rivers and splash areas that kids love.
Las Vegas can be a fantastic family destination when you go beyond the casinos. With so many options for activities for vacationers of all ages, Las Vegas proves that it’s not just for adults, it’s for families too.
Viva Las Vegas!
